which one is the landmark ? hehe...
prime orientation clues
function:
emphasize and also dignify the diversity of cities
to our eyes city areas which are important in functional fact but need to have that fact visually acknowledged and dignified
can perform to clarify the order of cities
a spot where it shows to advantage.
distinctive as a thing itself- size provide good orientation service and visual interest for people at a distance? other ?
example : the new York public library building set in its commercial matrix at fifth avenue and forty second street
example 2: the empire state building and the consolidated Edison = clock?
Philadelphia city hall…. surmounted by the statue of William penn , makes a splendid landmark from afar

see... if three giant structures exist at one place , then which one would be the landmark?
do you want your building as the landmark along that area?
haha...
example 3: the Rockefeller center in New York
landmark , not the towering structure behind it !

i think if we look to smaller scope, to kl, we have a lots of landmarks too.. like KLCC and KL Tower.. before KLCC, KL Tower was Kl landmaks; after that, KLCC become the landmark, why? it is more representative? it is because the public give more attention to it? or it is the tallest in KL? haha..

undoubted, the world r always compete with the height of the building..perhaps the higher the building, the more impression given?
the higher u can built showing that how successful u r?it is a kind of challenging perhaps..

well, talking back the landmark, instead of saying that the highest building can be the landmark..how about the ''bird's nest'' stadium in beijing,china?..the stadium was construct with the curving steels, and the impressive form..it is also become the landmark of the China..

klcc is a landmark may bcos of due to the fact that it is of twin towers. The height of both towers are the same, therefore it neutralizes the skyline of the city itself. this makes the building does not look like a dominating element, in fact it tries to bring the horizontal element into it. it tries to merge with the skyline, not underestimate it.
